24 volt question

Postby bshepard » Tue May 10, 2011 10:26 am

Battery question/idea. For a 24v Trolling motor. I need 24v but I want more amp hours. With three 12v Deep Cycles can I run the first two parallel and than the last one in series? What do you think?

Thank you for your reply. However I already have Optima Blue tops. Remember the question was whether I could hook up three batteries for 24v. It appears not. Matt Dubovick's testing indicates that the Amps will go up but you will drop to around 18 volts. Although the 24 volt trolling motor will still run, you will not get longer life from your batteries because you are still limited to the charge in the single battery. For this to work flawlessly you would need two sets for 12 volt batteries hooked up in series and then paralleled together. End of project. lol
