Butch Ward Memorial Youth Scholarship Fund Rewards Six Students
By Jim Kline

To give some of you who may be new to the Federation a background into the Nelson L. (Butch) Ward Memorial Youth Scholarship Fund, this Fund was formed after the death of Butch Ward, a long-time member and officer of the MBF, with the purpose of awarding a scholarship annually to an individual entering or enrolled in college.  Butch had always entertained the idea of a scholarship program for youth seeking higher education.  It was not until after his death, however, that the program was established, the funding of which began with memorial donations.

On October 26, 2005, the MBF Scholarship Committee met at the Four Seasons Restaurant in Mount Airy , Maryland .  Committee members present were:  Roger Trageser, Jim Kline, Linda Ward, Brian Cox and Rich Weldon.  Scholarship application packages in receipt of the committee were handed out to the members and reviewed by them.  The committee discussed the merits of each candidate and a vote was taken.  It was unanimously agreed that all candidates who submitted an application merited the awarding of a scholarship.  The committee decided to award each of the following candidates with a $500 scholarship (a check will be made payable to the recipient and his/her school):

Danielle K. Shives,
Hagerstown
Community College

Drew C. Holler,
Towson
University

Joshua P. Fiedler,
Frostburg
State University

Jessica L. Jones,
Towson
University

Breanne L. Pittman,
Community College
of Baltimore

Amanda R. Dotson,
University
of Southern Maryland
.

Scholarships presented by the Maryland Bass Federation from the Nelson L. (Butch) Ward Memorial Youth Scholarship Fund, including this year's recipients, total fourteen in number, for an overall presentation of $7,000.  Congratulations to the above students; good luck in your studies!  I'm sure Butch would be proud of you.
